The fashion and style tale of Lorna Burford begins with her giving us some insight into her life. A life that wasn’t always as glamorous as one might think (her genuine responses make for a captivating story). As a fashion supernova and author behind Raindrops of Sapphire and The Jeans Blog, we were interested to find out more than just the usual style tips and everything else that comes with being a top blogger.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you were doing before you started?  What inspired you to create a blog and how has it transformed your style/career?

It’s nothing fancy actually. I got diagnosed with an illness (M.E/CFS) when I was 14 and it meant I couldn’t work or attend school, so I spent every day at home. It got to a point where I was extremely bored and frustrated as I hate not doing something, which led to me turning to online I wanted somewhere to call my own online that I could share things I loved with similar people, without having to worry about being well enough to leave the house.  I could give some fancy, made up answer which seems more lavish, but that’s the truthful one.

There must be many ups and downs of blogging as a career. What would you consider as the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?

Honestly, the greatest satisfaction is the readers and having loyal followers who are interested in everything you do. It’s amazing to have people love my blog and my blog posts, those who follow me on social media too. I’m so grateful. It’s also really nice when well known or respected brands approach you and realise the hard work you put into your blog, it’s very rewarding to be given credit and acknowledge from people at the top of their game.

Fashion tale-ing (Blogging), especially writing, does come with some challenges, even if some believe that it is the most effortless job one could have. What these challenges may be however, could be for different reasons.

The biggest challenge has been for me the struggle with anxiety, health, and social events. Like I mentioned above, having an illness can be hard, especially when you need to attend events or parties, it can cause an issue. Especially when holidays are concerned, there’s an overlap of personal and professional life and it can sometimes cause issues. It’s about finding the right balance though.

Can you describe your own personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?

I love the style of Olivia Palermo, Hilary Duff, Jessica Alba, and Miranda Kerr. Those ladies have amazing dress sense and I look to them for inspiration sometimes. My own personal style is a mix of those 4 ladies, as well as my own spin on it. I’m a denim expert and always incorporate denim in my looks, so my personal looks are entered around jeans usually. I’m a huge lover of thigh high suede boots, velvet, statement coats and jackets, and designer bags. So you will often find me dressed in those pieces.

Everyone has a tale of their favourite pair of eyewear. Whether it’s sun or eye glasses, the point is to treat your pair as a statement or an accessory that you could wear and share with multiple outfits and memories.

My favourite is definitely the Aviator style from Ray-Ban, it suits everyone, however I have recently ventured into more round shaped lenses. They unexpectedly suit my face perfectly and have been my go to for a while. I also love the mirrored flash lenses in bright colours, I have a few of those. If I had to pick a favourite colour, it would be the brown tortoise as it’s so versatile, but I do love to go bold with my pink or purple mirrored lenses and velvet frames. I’m looking at you Ray-Ban Erika!

And just a few questions for fun…

How would you spend a cozy evening indoors on a weekend?

I love to snuggle up in something warm and watch Christmas movies, or romance movies, something like that. If I’m not doing that though I’m usually found on social media or on my blog, creating new things.

Do you have any weird or unique interests/hobbies/talents?

I have a few I guess. I love Marvel and super hero stuff in generally, I’m quite nerdy like that. That’s a huge interest of mine, which doesn’t often come hand in hand with fashion. I love to sing as well, that’s a passion. I don’t know if you could call it a talent, but I can copy anyone’s accent as soon as I hear it too, ha ha.
